Summary

The mists rule the night。。。
The lord ruler owns the world。

For a thousand years the ash fell。
For a thousand years, the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear。 For a thousand years, the Lord Ruler reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible。 Every attempted revolt has failed miserably。

Yet somehow hope survives。
A new kind of uprising is being planned, one that depends on the cunning of a brilliant criminal mastermind and the courage of an unlikely heroine, a Skaa street urchin, who must learn to master Allomancy, the power of a mistborn。

What if the prophesied hero had failed to defeat the Dark Lord? The answer will be found in the Mistborn trilogy, a saga of surprises that begins here。

Shouldn't that do the trick, since the bracelets would have been on the severed arm, and away from his body? Is this a genuine plot hole, or I am too dense to understand it? It feels like a lazy way out。 I am also worried about the sequels。 My main fear is that they were even more boring than the first book。 Defeating the Final Empire and Lord Ruler is such a gargantuan and dramatic conflict, I do not think anything could live up to that same excitement。 I pray the author proves me wrong。 。。。more

Why? Why? Why did you have to do this Brandon Sanderson, you cruel man? Wasn't there any other way? Deep breathe。。。 Okay, try to calm down。This book was brilliantly-written torture, it both hurt my soul, emotions, and my brain。 I started reading this because for a while now, I've been watching Sanderson's lectures about fantasy/sci-fi writing on youtube, (they're brilliant, for those who are wondering, make you want to write while opening the doors of the vast world of creating wonderful novels, Why? Why? Why did you have to do this Brandon Sanderson, you cruel man? Wasn't there any other way? Deep breathe。。。 Okay, try to calm down。This book was brilliantly-written torture, it both hurt my soul, emotions, and my brain。 I started reading this because for a while now, I've been watching Sanderson's lectures about fantasy/sci-fi writing on youtube, (they're brilliant, for those who are wondering, make you want to write while opening the doors of the vast world of creating wonderful novels, very helpful and strangely motivating) and he talked A LOT about Mistbron to give examples。 He was one of those authors I always thought about reading but never did, so after watching a couple of his lectures, I thought why not。It was one of the greatest things I've done so far this year。 I expected so much from this book and it fulfilled all of them。 The world he built was a wonderful one, detailly crafted。 And the characters too。。。 Though I had a little disappointment here, I expected Kelsier to be main character, but a few chapters later, the story switched its focus on Vin, a teenage girl with trust issues, how。。。 typical。 She was not one of the best characters I've read, but not worst, and as the story progressed, she developed for the better。 But she was not Kell。Ah, Kell, my love。。。 He was one of the best characters I've ever read, and I've read a lot。 He kind of reminded me of the protagonist of the Red Rising I forgot his name。 And the story was similar too, a man who lost his wife from lower cast rebels against the government。。。 But he was far better。 A man who lost too much but still could hope for better, a man who made mistakes and learned from them。 He was truly their leader。 (view spoiler)[ I am still furious that he had to die, seriously Brandon, you really had to do this? I hoped, at least he would learn that his wife did not betray him, that Vin was right and he would die, I don't know, more content? And it made me cry!! I don't remember the last time I've cried over a character's death。 (hide spoiler)] And I really thought Elend would show his true face, that he would betray Vin eventually so I kept myself from liking him, at least tried to, but he was too charming, not as much as Kelsier though, but still。Okay, moving on to the plot。 Or should I say the plot twists, because the book was full of them。 Especially towards the end, it was shocking upon shocking。 My brain still did not recover from them, (as you can understand from the shapeless thing I've written in the name of review), and there are still so many secrets yet to unfold and I am too excited about reading the rest of the series。 I hope it will continue to be awesome。 。。。more

2。5。 This book put me in such a reading slump。 It doesn’t pick up until ch。29/30。 I wanted to get the same hype for Sanderson that so many others have but no。 I don’t get, don’t see, and will likely not continue with this series。 I will try Era 2 and his standalone books。 I hear there is major improvement with those。 2。5。 This book put me in such a reading slump。 It doesn’t pick up until ch。29/30。 I wanted to get the same hype for Sanderson that so many others have but no。 I don’t get, don’t see, and will likely not continue with this series。 I will try Era 2 and his standalone books。 I hear there is major improvement with those。 。。。more

5 stars。This was my first time really diving into high fantasy and OH MY GOSH。 I was missing out on so。 Much。 The twists were plausible and yet unpredictable, the magic system was incredibly well done, and the world building was magnificent。 The characters were a real treat, though。 I finished this book feeling satisfied with the ending, but still hungry for more。 I got so wrapped up in this book that I would forget how long I was reading for。 Pinnacle of escapism。 To wrap up, 5/5, have already 5 stars。This was my first time really diving into high fantasy and OH MY GOSH。 I was missing out on so。 Much。 The twists were plausible and yet unpredictable, the magic system was incredibly well done, and the world building was magnificent。 The characters were a real treat, though。 I finished this book feeling satisfied with the ending, but still hungry for more。 I got so wrapped up in this book that I would forget how long I was reading for。 Pinnacle of escapism。 To wrap up, 5/5, have already recommended to at least 3 people。 。。。more

This book is sooo underrated。 It is here by one of my favourite books。 The plot is hooking and very interesting and in addition it has one of the coolest magic systems。 Thought it might be a little hard to understand in the beginning, but there is a dictionary in the back and is understandable if you give it a little time。 It also contains so many good quotes and smart thoughts。 Everyone needs to read this book! 🤩

I didn't think I would enjoy this as much as the other Brandon Sanderson books I've read, but the last third of the book made up for the slow beginning。 Worthwhile to finish it。 Simple language like a middle reader, but complex storyline of an adult book。 I didn't think I would enjoy this as much as the other Brandon Sanderson books I've read, but the last third of the book made up for the slow beginning。 Worthwhile to finish it。 Simple language like a middle reader, but complex storyline of an adult book。 。。。more

The Final Empire: 3。5/5“But you can't kill me, Lord Tyrant。 I represent that one thing you've never been able to kill, no matter how hard you try。 I am hope。”I finally crawled out of whatever hole I was living in to read this book。 This was originally a five-star prediction for me。 I was so positive that I would absolutely love this book based on reviews, but it didn't quite live up to all my expectations。 Overall, I feel really torn about it。Writing & Plot:I am familiar with Brandon Sanderson's The Final Empire: 3。5/5“But you can't kill me, Lord Tyrant。 I represent that one thing you've never been able to kill, no matter how hard you try。 I am hope。”I finally crawled out of whatever hole I was living in to read this book。 This was originally a five-star prediction for me。 I was so positive that I would absolutely love this book based on reviews, but it didn't quite live up to all my expectations。 Overall, I feel really torn about it。Writing & Plot:I am familiar with Brandon Sanderson's writing due to the Skyward series, one of my favorite YA series of all time, so this style was not new。 Sanderson's writing is straightforward to follow。 He uses simple words that we use in everyday speech, making the books more approachable, and I appreciate that。I have to praise the magic system in this book as well。 It is unique, and like nothing I have encountered before。 It makes action scenes very enjoyable and adds a lot to the basic nature of the plot。I definitely also enjoyed this plot。 It was more linear than I originally anticipated (classic small quests until the boss fight plot)。 This is not necessarily bad since Brandon Sanderson executes this plot really well, but I think it was much longer than it needed to be。 I felt like this book took me 100 years to finish。 Most reviews say this book picks up after the 100-page mark, and I have to disagree。 The trouble I had with The Final Empire is that it felt stagnant for 3/4 of the book。 I realized in part four that the reader still only knows the information given initially, and nothing really progressed until the final 100 pages。 Characters:I actually really loved the characters within The Final Empire。 Every character has a specific purpose, and I think Vin is one of the coolest and strongest female protagonists I've read in my life。 I definitely got attached to the relationships in the book, and Brandon Sanderson does a good job of making each one unique, even though there are many names。Conclusion:Now you may ask me, "Tatiana, this all sounds very positive; why a 3。5 rating?" And to that, I have to respond that this book didn't click for me。 I liked the plot, I like the writing, and I like the characters; I think it was too long and too slow for me。I don't know, maybe it's because I am still hung up on Chain of Iron, but I seriously had to push myself to finish this book。 Since it has such incredible reviews (which I think are all justified), I will be reading the final two books in this series, but maybe after a few weeks。 。。。more

I did not expect to love this book but wow。 I feel such a close connection to Vin and am overly attached to the crew also。 I will pat myself on the back and say I predicted a lot that happened in the book but it was written so well that it wasn’t boring to discover through the character’s eyes。 The only pause for me is how quickly the romance happened but even that was cute enough that I’ll still give 5 stars。 Wowie。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I’m a huge Stormlight Archive fan and figured I’d give this trilogy a shot, but unfortunately I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the Stormlight books。 I found it a bit difficult to care about the characters, though Sazed emerged as a clear favorite as the book went on。 I know Kelsier is supposed to be a bit abrasive, but I really didn’t click with his character and as a result wasn’t as invested as more was revealed about his tragic past and his final act at the end of the book。 Unfortunately, I’m a huge Stormlight Archive fan and figured I’d give this trilogy a shot, but unfortunately I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the Stormlight books。 I found it a bit difficult to care about the characters, though Sazed emerged as a clear favorite as the book went on。 I know Kelsier is supposed to be a bit abrasive, but I really didn’t click with his character and as a result wasn’t as invested as more was revealed about his tragic past and his final act at the end of the book。 Unfortunately, I also had to push myself a bit to care about Vin and I’m not quite sure why。 I think it’a difficult to make an orphan-from-the-street type character very interesting or likable at first because the beginning of their arc requires that type of character to have repeated instances of not trusting people, and I found this boring。 I ended up trying to read this book multiple times but got bored enough to put it down, so I eventually finished it by listening to the audiobook。My favorite parts of this book were Vin attending balls and navigating court politics/interacting with Elend, and I enjoyed the action at the end where she infiltrated the Lord Ruler’s grounds。The world building is also interesting, and I can see the conflicts Sanderson has set up。 I know a lot of people really love this book and trilogy and although it didn’t quite align with my tastes, it is well written and I have since finished the trilogy。 。。。more

I recently got into reading adult fantasy and after a deep dive into reddit, figured Sanderson would be a good place to start。 The final empire is the first book in the Mistborn series and is set in a dystopic era - a thousand years after the immortal Lord Ruler's ascension。 Those who live in the final empire are either nobility (those who gained the Lord Ruler's favor by aiding him during his ascension) or Skaa (people oppressed by the nobility and treated as much lesser)。 The main plot unravel I recently got into reading adult fantasy and after a deep dive into reddit, figured Sanderson would be a good place to start。 The final empire is the first book in the Mistborn series and is set in a dystopic era - a thousand years after the immortal Lord Ruler's ascension。 Those who live in the final empire are either nobility (those who gained the Lord Ruler's favor by aiding him during his ascension) or Skaa (people oppressed by the nobility and treated as much lesser)。 The main plot unravels in the city Luthadel, as Kelsier, a powerful Allomancer and his thieving crew recruit sixteen-year-old Vin and plan to accomplish an impossible feat, overthrowing the Lord Ruler。 I read a few reviews before picking up the book and a lot of them touch on how Sanderson's writing is simple and basic。 And while I agree with them that the language in the book is indeed quite simple, I find it to be fitting of a fantasy series like Mistborn。 There are times when I enjoy the elaborate prose that certain novels offer and there are others, when I'm mainly in it for the plot。 And Sanderson has done such a splendid job with the plot in terms of both sophistication and grandeur that I didn't find myself in want of complicated vocabulary。For me, the book was a page turner from the first minute。 I didn’t feel like the author wasted his words, everything he wrote ties together at the end。 It did however, take almost two thirds of the book to convince me about the magic system and the world building。 And in retrospect, I think that it might have been the author's intention。 Instead of explaining it all to the reader, Sanderson let me get acclimated to the characters and the world at my own pace。And boy, the last third of the book was a whirlwind! You think the book is going in a certain direction and you get thrown into something else entirely。 The slightly slow build-up definitely paid off and I had to take a deep breath to myself thinking - 'Wow。 What did I just read?'The character development in the book wasn't the best。 As a reader, I didn't feel more connected to them as the story progressed, rather, feeling about them the same way I did at the beginning of the book。 Kelsier's character has an air of mystery around it, which partly justifies the lack of development there, but the author has just spent so some time exploring Vin's thoughts and emotions that he might as well have done a better job of it。 Having said that, I am mainly a reader of literary fiction (where the character themselves have more weight and take the story forward, along with or rather than the plot) and I understand where my opinions might be biased。Another issue I had with the book was the romance - it was poorly done。 And honestly, it wouldn't have bothered me had it not been central to the plot。 The love that two of the characters have for each other sets the ground for the decisions that they make - some of which have serious repercussions。 And as a reader (and as someone that has read one too many romance novels), I didn’t find it believable。 Although I pointed out some of the cons for the sake of this review, the pros far outweigh them and I can't wait to spend this entire weekend reading The Well of Ascension! 。。。more
